Friends of Fort McHenry supports the National Park Service in preserving and promoting one of Baltimore’s most important historic landmarks. We offer valuable information that supports students, educators, and lifelong learners. Friends of Fort McHenry works closely with the Baltimore community to create programs and events that reflect local voices and shared history. Through partnerships with schools, nonprofits, and civic groups, it strengthens connections between the park and the people it serves. Its efforts help keep Fort McHenry a vibrant, inclusive place for education, recreation, and community pride.
Celebrating 250 years of America
As our country celebrates its 250th anniversary, we can reflect on our history and must look towards the future. The Friends of Fort McHenry are observing our Nation’s historic anniversary by securing our future with the establishment of a membership campaign. Help Friends of Fort McHenry support the National Park Service in this momentous time by becoming a member of the Friends and assist us in partnering with the National Park Service for another 250 years.

Living History
Friends of Fort McHenry employs youth who participate in the Living History programs. This youth employment provides training and experience in areas such as historical research, public speaking, interpretive methods, and professional conduct. Youth are introduced to potential career pathways in education, public history, and the National Park Service.

A Living Classrooms Program
Living Classrooms mission is to strengthen communities and inspire children, youth, and adults to achieve their potential through innovative, hands-on education, workforce development, health and wellness, and community safety programs that use urban, natural, and maritime resources as “living classrooms.”
Living Classrooms’ Friends of Fort McHenry brings one of the most meaningful “classrooms” into that model: Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine. By supporting programming and engagement at Fort McHenry, Living Classrooms and Friends of Fort McHenry turn a historic site into an active space for learning, connection, and community impact.
